Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Onion Chopper The Quick, Safe and Simple Way to Chop up Your Fruits and Vegetables.Customer Review: Awesome chopper Summary: 5 Stars
This chopper is such a great time-saver. I use it to chop green peppers and onions for Spanish rice, and tomatoes for salsa - in seconds! Sometimes it takes a couple of taps on the top, but always makes uniform bitesize pieces. The comb that comes with is handy for cleaning residue from the top. Cleanup is easy too.
Customer Review: Better than I expected Summary: 4 Stars
My husband brought this home to be helpful. My first reaction was "Not that!" as I saw the As-Seen-on-TV tag. Great, just what I need...another worthless kitchen gadget.
I finally used it today for the first time. Today's Chopping Line-up:
- 2 large onions (peeled & cut in half top-to-bottom like the directions say) Large Blade
- 2 Anaheim peppers, seeded and cut into pieces to fit the grid - had a bit of a problem on this one, until I turned the pepper skin side up. Fine Blade
- 4 whole potatoes (3-4oz ea), peeled - didn't dice or cube them, but got pieces like two cubes stuck together. Ok for my purposes, but I will watch that in the future. Large Blade
It was easy to clean, not problem to get the food out of the grates. I saw that while the measuring part was not helpful today, in other uses it could be very handy. The only bad thing I can say is that some of it needed a LOT of pressure to chop the food. If you have limited strength for pushing down on the top, this is not for you.
VS - Food Processor - this is better for getting chunks...not sliced or grated...just chunks in one of two sizes. Both require pre-cutting to an appropriate size.
VS - Knife - this is faster, no onion crying, more uniform. Still, you can't vary the cut, and need to make sure item is cut to the right size to use first.
Bottom Line - Overall I am surprised and impressed. Worked better and easier than I expected. Has some limitations, but none I did not already expect. Worth the space in my cupboard? - Yes
Edited to add - it seems the dog has decided that this is a "popper". That is a designation used for things that send her into a complete panic...such as fireworks. I still use but not as often as I normally would. If you have a dog who is also "allergic to poppers" you may want to rethink this purchase
Customer Review: Chopper to the rescue Summary: 5 Stars
Part of my job at the Old Bakery and Emporium in Austin Texas is to make the Chicken Salad for our lunch counter. I really hated chopping the onions so I saw this in another store and thought I would give it a try. Once I figured out how to cut the onions and how much to put in the tray I must tell you I was amazed. It cut each onion perfectly and didn't turn it to mush as I thought it would. I now use it not only for the onions but for the celery, bell pepper, green onions, and pickles I have reduced my time preparing the chicken salad by 30 minutes. I just love it and I have told everyone I know about it. One thing is you have to figure out which blade is best for each veggie once you do it is the greatest little gadget. I am now buying one for my home and for a few of my friends.
Customer Review: DON'T BUY IT! Summary: 1 Stars
I have only used it once and it broke (made out of cheap plastic)! It for sure is a "one time use only" and the way it is shown on TV is not the way you really use it, not so smoothly - I think they have used an already chopped onion. I would say it is better for soft vegetables such as tomatoes (which also is very messy because of the juice). It was just a waste of money. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Disappointing product Summary: 1 Stars
I thought I was ordering the Vidalia FooD Chopper. Instead I got the Onion Chopper. It was for a gift since I had used the Vidalia Food Chopper for over a year and really enjoyed it. I was very upset when I found out that the gift I sent was only a small knife onion chopper and then the person who received it promptly broke off the corner of the plastic. Apparently this product is not warranted for breakage!!! BEWARE
